The Hundred Fountains

One of the most evocative sceneries of the garden is certainly the one offered by the famous Cento Fontane: it is an avenue that combines the Fontana dell'Ovatoto the one called Romettain the scenic perspective of three parallel canals of gushes of water.

The fountains take on the varied forms of small boats, obelisks, lilies and eagles - the latter are a direct reference to the heraldry of the Este family. The hundred pipes that supply the water features can be interpreted as an allegory of the Anieneriver, which flows from Tivoli to Rome and flows into the Tiber.
