Temple of Fortuna Augusta

Buildings dedicated to the Goddess Fortuna were built both in Rome and in several Italian cities to celebrate Emperor Augustus back from military campaigns. In Pompeii, Duovir M. Tullius funded the construction of a temple on his plot of land, in honor of the Emperor.  The cella housed the statue of Goddess Fortuna;  the statues portraying the imperial family and probably one dedicated to M. Tullius himself were in the side niches.
