House of Ceii

According to the election slogan on the façade, this may have been the residence of Lucius Ceius Secundus.

It has a basic layout: the entrance leads to an atrium which opens onto the other rooms; at the far end a hallway leads to the garden. A staircase reaches the upper floor which was under construction at the time of the eruption.

The rooms are richly decorated in the “Third Style”: the mosaic floors have geometric shapes inserted between multi-colored marble tiles. The back wall of the garden is decorated with a hunting scene and Egyptian landscapes along the side walls; those were widely used in the last years of Pompeii to recall striking views and exotic places.
