Il Braccio Nuovo è la possente ed evidentissima struttura che separa il Cortile della Pigna dal Cortile del Belvedere. Fu papa Pio VII a decidere la sua costruzione quando nel 1817 le opere che Napoleone aveva portato a Parigi tornarono a Roma.

L’edificio, progettato dall’architetto romano Raffaele Stern, fu inaugurato nel 1822 e raccoglie alcune celebri statue di età romana: l’Augusto di Prima Porta, una copia romana del Doriforo (il portatore di lancia) e l’Athena Giustiniani.
